Shakespeare by the Sea’s Indie Theatre Residency Program is a new initiative designed to give independent theatrical work in Halifax a home. Our low-risk producing model makes it possible for companies without large financial resources to use the Park Place Theatre as a venue for the rehearsal and production of their work. We know that rehearsal and performance space are often the largest budget lines for independent productions, and Shakespeare by the Sea wants to offer our resources to significantly mitigate that cost.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
One independent theatre company, collective or individual to produce a production at The Park Place Theatre in February of 2020. We are looking for artists in need of a space and a producing partner. Whether it’s the first production of a new work, a cool new imagining of an existing play, or you need space and time to develop a collective creation, the Park Place Theatre could be the place to support you and your collaborators. Our aim is to eliminate, as much as possible, the financial risk associated with producing theatre independently for local companies using the Equity Collective Policy or similar form of contract.
