Those of us who have experienced a Canadian winter (or hurricane, or massive South End power outage, or COVID-19 isolation) know it's pretty unlikely we'll get through an entire year of classes without losing one or two to unforeseen circumstances. For this reason, we have a series of planned "Contingency Days". A Contingency Day will get added to the schedule if we are forced to cancel any classes. Just to be clear, these are not to make up any individual missed classes, they are in place for program-wide cancellations. We ask that you pencil them into your calendars just in case, but unless something happens, we will not use them.

TUITION, FEES, PAYMENTS, AND REFUND POLICY
We accept CASH, CHEQUE, OR CREDIT CARD. Tuition is due regardless of holidays or absences.
You will be able to choose your payment plan upon registration. If you choose not to pay your full tuition upfront, invoices will be sent two weeks prior to payment due date. In an effort to save paper, invoices will be sent via email.
LATE PAYMENT FEE: An administration fee of $25.00 will be charged to your account for all past due payments.
RETURNED CHEQUE: A $25.00 charge will be applied to your account on all returned cheques to cover bank fees and processing.
LATE REGISTRATION: If you choose to register after classes have begun, your child may still be accepted into a program at the Education Director’s discretion. Although it is our goal to include any child who wants to learn, the integrity of the program being offered must be maintained for students already in it. If it is possible for your child to join, the Education Director will calculate a pro-rated tuition for you. The Education Director’s decision, in all matters, is final.
REFUND POLICY: If after a class, a program is very different from what your expected, you will be welcome to move to a different class within the studio, although you will need to pay the tuition balance if there is one. If a solution within the studio cannot be reached and you must withdraw, the refund policy is as follows, with all refunds subject to a $25 processing fee: after just one class, you can request a full refund, less the processing fee. After up to three classes, you can request a 70% refund, less the processing fee. After 4 or more classes, you are no longer eligible for a refund.
There are no refunds on our Summer Camps.
Shakespeare by the Sea reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any class that does not have sufficient enrollment.
All students require a costume for the recital for each of their classes. A non-refundable costume fee of $30.00 per costume, per class, per person will be added to your tuition fees. The costumes remain the property of Shakespeare by the Sea after they have been used. The costume fee covers cleaning, alterations, and any damage that the costumes may incur while in use. This cost is covered in the case of students attending on scholarships.
Some costumes may require that parents provide “basic” items, such as tights, tank tops, socks, etc. in order to complete a costume. As much notice as possible will be given in cases where this is required.
Recital Tickets, Class Photos, and Videos will be made available during the Winter/Spring Term. Different parents have different needs, and so the cost of these items have not been included in tuition. The cost of these items will be finalized before March 1st, 2020.

All Important Dates and closures are listed on shakespearebythesea.ca. Reminders will be sent out, but please send an email if you are unsure. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Intro, Junior, and Senior Classes
Regular attendance is crucial when it comes to theatre education. Ensemble theatre work is not unlike a team sport in that it requires all team members to attend in order for the team to excel. It is therefore our policy that if a child MUST attend at least 20 out of 29 classes overall (with at least 12 out of 15 of them being in the Winter/Spring session), and all dress rehearsals in order to be included in the recital. If a student registers for the Winter/Spring term only, they must attend at least 14 out of 15 classes. This is not a policy made to punish the students, only to value the work of students who attend classes consistently. There are, of course, extenuating circumstances and special cases where exceptions to this policy can be made, but please understand that you will be making a special request, these exceptions will only be made where the Education Director deems appropriate.
Students enrolled in our company programs perform in a show that will have a one-week dress rehearsal period and run in April of 2020. The expectation is that students who choose to enrol in this program will take the opportunity to work in this pre-professional situation seriously. Students in the Company programs should make every effort to attend all classes and rehearsals. Illness, injury, or other major personal/family circumstances are of course acceptable reasons for missing a rehearsal, but things like birthday parties, procrastinated homework/studying, and other extracurricular activities should not take priority over Company rehearsals. The other actors are relying on everyone to be there, and even one absence can cause major problems. It is therefore our policy that students enrolled in Company classes must attend at least 26 out of 29 classes and all dress rehearsals and performances.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer make-up classes if a student is absent for personal reasons.
If there is inclement weather predicted and driving conditions will be dangerous, we may choose to cancel a class for safety reasons. The decision will be made with our best judgement based on weather conditions at 1pm the day of the class in question. Notification will be sent out via email. In the event that class has to be cancelled due to inclement weather or some other unforeseen circumstance, we have a system of "Contingency Days". Casting is an absolutely unavoidable part of theatre education. Whether it’s the distribution of solos in a group number, or the casting of parts in a full-length play, it takes parts of all sizes and natures to tell a story. It is the philosophy of the studio that being part of an ensemble is the best thing about being an actor. Everyone working together to lift each other up is what theatre is all about. It is not the size of the role that matters, but how special that role will be because of the person playing it, who will be working with the total support of their peers.
It is our utmost desire for all students to be excited about the role they are given. Unfortunately, this is not always what ends up happening. The Education Director, or any guest Director they bring in, will use their best judgment and their professional artistic sense in order to decide how best to use everyone. Every student will have at least one line, but beyond that, there are no guarantees. Casting decisions are made in good faith and to the highest standard of personal artistic integrity by the Education Director, and the decisions are final. Withdrawal from any program due to casting will not be eligible for a refund.
