STUDIO CLASSES

Studio classes take place at The Park Place Theatre, 5480 Point Pleasant Drive.

Our lovely home occasionally hosts theatrical performances from outside groups and companies. In an effort to meet the needs of Halifax's broader theatre community, Studio classes will very occasionally be moved to alternative locations. In these instances, we have always managed to find an alternative space in the immediate South End neighbourhood, and provided as much notice as possible.

Registration for Intro, Junior and Senior level classes is ongoing. If you submit a registration form after classes begin,

your tuition will be pro-rated. Registration for Company-level classes closes on October 26th, 2020.

Classes Begin:  October 3rd, 2020

Classes End: May 15th, 2021,

followed by Dress Rehearsal on May 17th and recital performances May 18th-20th at the Park Place Theatre.

COVID-19 Safety Plan:
At Shakespeare by the Sea, we take health and safety very seriously. We have too many high-risk loved ones in the SBTS family to take any chances. We are committed to meeting all Public Health Guidelines, and, where possible, going above and beyond to protect students and staff. Safety guidelines surrounding COVID-19 have to be sensitive to changes as experts learn more and more about the virus. Because the guidelines do shift, we are holding off on publishing our safety plan for Fall classes. We do this to ensure that when we put forth our policy, it is based on the most up-to-date information from the Province. If you want to get a sense of just how serious about safety we are, you can read the Safety Plan we put forward for our 2020 summer classes. You may choose to register for Fall classes without having yet seen our updated guidelines, just please know that you will have to agree to fully comply with our approved safety plan for your child to be admitted to class. We're looking forward to welcoming you to the Studio...it's just imperative that we do it safely!

end-of-year fees

When it comes to showtime at the end of our year, one size doesn't necessarily fit all when it coems to things like tickets and photos. You'll be given an order form where you can select which end-of-year add-ons you'd like. You don't need to decide until then, but just to give you an idea of prices, here's what you can expect. Please note, some of the costs could vary if the cost of certain services increase:

Costume Fee: $35.00 + HST per student, per class. (mandatory)
This fee covers cleaning and any care or repairs that are necassary once it has been used. The Studio at Shakespeare by the Sea is able to offer such comprehensive programming in part because we are housed by the professional theatre company, which owns a beautiful library of costumes created by professional costumers over the years. In order to be able to continue to use it, we have to return the costumes to their place in the collection in pristine shape. All students wear a costume in their end-of-year show.

Tickets: $12.00 + HST/single, $40.00 + HST/family pass, which is four tickets to the same performance

We wait until a little closer to the show to put these on sale. You'll get a letter and an order form to select your performances. We always guarantee that we have enough tickets available that each student will have access to at least 4 tickets up until the guaranteed-ticket deadline.

Video: $25.00 + HST

We have a professional videographer who shoots and edits our students' performances. The fee to get a copy of this video is $25.00 +

HST, which all just goes to cover the cost of the videographer's services.

Photos: $15.00 + HST for the class or cast photo, $10.00 + HST per student per class for individual shots*
*
This is for the high-resolution electronic file. An additional fee for prints ranges from $2.50-$7.50 + HST per print, depending on which sizes you want.

Similar to the video situation, we hire a professional photographer to come in and take our class and cast photos. The fee for the electronic file just goes to cover the cost of their service, and the print price just covers the cost of printing.
