It’s the name of a quarry near Stockholm where seven different elements were discovered. Ytterbium, Yttrium, Terbium, Erbium, as well as Holmium (short for Stockholm), Thulium (after the Latin term for Northern Scandinavia), and Gadolinium (after the Finnish chemist who made some of these discoveries). It’s a reminder that if you work hard and dig deep, you might find gold. But even better than that, you might find answers to the essential questions about how the world works. And that describes theatre a lot better than gold does.

The Ytterby Scholarship is currently sponsoring one Teen Company student for the 2019-2020 season. The whole team is endlessly grateful to Denton Froese for his generous contribution to the growth of our dream: a totally accessible place for young people to learn about theatre and how to make it.
