Shakespeare By The Sea is hiring crew and staff in support of the upcoming 2026 professional summer theatre season. The following positions are available, click on the job title or scroll down for more details:​

Shakespeare by the Sea performs outdoors in Point Pleasant Park, located in Halifax/K'jipuktuk. SBTS productions run in repertory, with actors appearing in multiple productions.
Shakespeare by the Sea seeks to create theatre that is inviting, inclusive, and accessible to all. In seeking to gather an ensemble that reflects the diverse community we serve, we strongly encourage submissions from artists of diverse cultural backgrounds, and will be prioritizing submissions from applicants who self-identify as members of underrepresented communities.

SUMMER SEASON PRODUCER
RATE OF PAY: $800/wk
CONTRACT DATES: June 1 - August 30, 2026
HIRING RESTRICTIONS: This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. Applicants must be 30 years old or younger as of the contract start date. The ideal candidate has a vaild drivers license.
JOB DESCRIPTION: This position reports directly to the Managing Artistic Director. The Producer plays a major role in the day-to-day operations of the 2026 Summer Season and surrounding events. This position is a key part of our operation, and is a perfect opportunity for an early career Theatre/Events Producer or Arts Administrator to gain valuable experience in all aspects of live performance and event producing.

Responsibilities include: Playing a key role in the day-to-day management of the summer season operations, and acting as a liaison between various departments, and as a contact for outside vendors. Working with the Front of House team to ensure smooth operations at the performance venue, in a public-facing position helping to process audience intake, coordinate volunteers, and manage concession/merchandise sales and inventory. Providing operational support to the Managing Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director related to 2026 Summer Season activities, including production management tasks, facilitating the work schedule of the design and production teams, assisting with Summer Season budget management and reconciliation.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER​
RATE OF PAY: $700/wk, approx. 35 hours/wk
CONTRACT DATES: June 1 - August 30, 2026
HIRING RESTRICTIONS: This is a Nova Scotia Skills position. Applicants must be planning to attend or return to a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2026.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Social Media Manager position will report to the Season Producer, and be responsible for creating content for the social media accounts at Shakespeare By The Sea during the 2026 professional theatre summer season, as well as collaborating with the Director of Development on the execution of our marketing & public relations strategy. The Social Media Manager work directly with the artists performing in the season to create daily content for our busy social media streams. The successful candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky) and have some experience analyzing social media interaction data. The Social Media Manager may also be tasked with making updates to the company website (hosted on the Wix platform).

APPRENTICE STAGE MANAGER
RATE OF PAY: $700/wk
CONTRACT DATES: June 1 - August 30, 2026
HIRING RESTRICTIONS: Must be okay with some physical labour working in an outdoor setting, able to lift 50lbs consistently.
JOB DESCRIPTION: ​This position reports directly to the Production Stage Manager. The Apprentice Stage Manager will assist in setting up and breaking down rehearsal spaces, ensuring all props, costumes, and set pieces are prepared and organized as well as track blocking, line notes, and other production details as directed by the Stage Manager. Due to the nature of our repertory rehearsal process, at times the ASM will oversee rehearsal when the PSM is already in another rehearsal.

Other duties will include: Maintaining and managing props and costume pieces during performances, ensuring they are in place and in good condition.​ Supervise backstage operations during performances, ensuring actors and crew are in position and cues are executed smoothly, ​
monitoring outdoor performance areas to ensure safety measures are in place for actors and crew, addressing hazards promptly.​ The ASM may be called upon act as a liaison between the Stage Manager, directors, and cast to relay important updates or changes.​
